Bed Base Recommendation - A comprehensive guideUpdated a month ago
When it comes to choosing the proper bed base, there is a lot to consider, from airflow to warranty coverage. Here is a few information about the different bed bases and how they might impact your new Polysleep mattress:
1. The Slatted base
The slatted bed base is the most common bed base and ideal with Polysleep's mattresses because it allows for proper airflow. The downside of a slatted base is that it can lessen the feeling of firmness of the mattress when used with thinner mattresses like the Origin mattress. It's always an option to cover your base with a few layers of thick cardboard to add some firmness. We recommend cardboard instead of wood as it offers better airflow.
The requirement for the slats is a minimum of 3 inches apart and 2 inches wide. These are the requirements for the warranty to be valid. In case of sagging of the mattress, your warranty could be rejected if your base does not respect these minimal requirements.
In the case of encased slate (like the Polysleep foundation) this is not an issue since the fabric casing prevents the mattress from sagging between the slats.
2. The Plateform base
Platform bases are compatible with foam mattresses, under certain conditions:
- The wood should be porous and not lacquered. The latter has a tendency to keep all moisture trapped in the mattress and could result in mold. In the case of a moldy mattress, your warranty could be voided if you used a lacquered wood base.
- Any plateform based should be used in well-ventilated rooms. They are not recommended in basements or very humid areas.
- Platform base will retain more heat than slatted bases. If you are a hot sleeper, we do not recommend them to you!
- Every 6 months, when it is time to rotate your mattress, you should lift your mattress entirely and make sure it`s clean and dry under.
3. Ajustable Base
All of our mattresses are compatible with adjustable bed bases, but only the Zephyr is truly made for it. It features special cuts under the mattress that allows it to move seamlessly with any adjustment of the base. Other mattresses would have to be put back int he straight positions before you get off the bed.
These bed bases are ideal with foam mattresses and the warranty is always valide with them.
4. Box Spring (with or without bed frames)
Certain older models of bed frames, or luxury bed frames, required the use of a box spring or foundation. You may also simply use a box spring or foundation alone with your mattress for a minimalistic look. The Polysleep Foundation is the ideal base for your mattress, but our mattresses are compatible with all box spring.
The warranty is always valid with the use of any box spring or foundation.
